Chapter 10, Verse 40

नान्तोऽस्ति मम दिव्यानां विभूतीनां परन्तप | एष तूद्देशत: प्रोक्तो विभूतेर्विस्तरो मया ॥40॥
nānto ’sti mama divyānāṁ vibhūtīnāṁ parantapa | eṣha tūddeśhataḥ prokto vibhūter vistaro mayā
"O conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have described to you is a mere illustration of My infinite opulences."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 10.40 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

In this verse, Bhagavan Krishna concludes His specific list of manifestations by clarifying that His glories are infinite (Ananta). The word 'uddeśhataḥ' is crucial; it signifies that what has been spoken from Verse 20 to 39 is just a 'brief mention' or 'summary illustration' (ekadeśhena). As a Vedic Guru would explain, the finite mind cannot grasp the infinite; therefore, the Lord provides pointers (Vibhūtis) to help the seeker's mind transition from the gross to the subtle. By recognizing excellence in the world as a spark of the Divine, the seeker learns to see God everywhere. Krishna addresses Arjuna as 'Parantapa' (Scorcher of Foes), implying that Arjuna has the inner strength to burn away the 'enemies' of ignorance and doubt to perceive this vast truth.
