Detailed Meaning

In this verse, Shree Krishna defines the Supreme Absolute as the 'Light of lights' (Jyotisham jyoti), indicating that all luminosity—physical like the sun and intellectual like consciousness—emanates from Him. He is 'Tamasaḥ param,' existing beyond the reach of material ignorance (Maya). He embodies the three-fold aspect of wisdom: Jñānam (the process of knowing), Jñeyam (the ultimate object to be known), and Jñāna-gamyam (the destination reached through wisdom). Finally, He is described as 'Hṛdi sarvasya viṣṭhitam,' emphasizing His immanence as the Paramatma residing in the hearts of all living beings, making divinity accessible within.
