Chapter 13, Verse 30

प्रकृत्यैव च कर्माणि क्रियमाणानि सर्वश: | य: पश्यति तथात्मानमकर्तारं स पश्यति ॥30॥
prakṛtyaiva ca karmāṇi kriyamāṇāni sarvaśaḥ | yaḥ paśyati tathātmānam akartāraṃ sa paśyati
"Those who see that all actions are performed by the material nature and that the Self is actually the non-doer—they truly see."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 13.30 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

This verse clarifies the distinction between the Field (Prakriti) and the Knower of the Field (Purusha). While the body, mind, and senses (all products of Prakriti) are engaged in various activities, the eternal Self (Atman) remains a witness and non-doer. The illusion of being the 'doer' arises from the ego (ahankara). True spiritual vision involves recognizing that the soul provides the consciousness, but the mechanism of action belongs to nature. However, as the explanation notes, the soul still bears responsibility for the intentions and directions it provides to the body, much like a ruler is responsible for the state's actions.
