Chapter 13, Verse 33

यथा सर्वगतं सौक्ष्म्यादाकाशं नोपलिप्यते | सर्वत्रावस्थितो देहे तथात्मा नोपलिप्यते ॥33॥
yathā sarva-gataṁ saukṣmyād ākāśaṁ nopalipyate | sarvatrāvasthito dehe tathātmā nopalipyate ||
"As the all-pervading space is not defiled, because of its subtlety, similarly the Self, present everywhere in the body, is not defiled."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 13.33 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Lord Krishna utilizes the analogy of 'Akasha' (Space/Ether) to explain the relationship between the Soul and the Body. Space exists everywhere—inside a jar of mud, amidst smoke, or within a palace—yet it remains untainted by the qualities of the objects it contains because it is 'subtle' (Saukshmya). Similarly, the Atman (Self) pervades the entire physical body and experiences all its states (waking, dreaming, pain, pleasure), yet it remains inherently pure and unaffected by the biological and emotional transformations of the 'Kshetra' (Field).
