Chapter 18, Verse 7

नियतस्य तु सन्न्यास: कर्मणो नोपपद्यते | मोहात्तस्य परित्यागस्तामस: परिकीर्तित: ॥7॥
niyatasya tu sannyāsaḥ karmaṇo nopapadyate | mohāt tasya parityāgas tāmasaḥ parikīrtitaḥ ||
"The renunciation of obligatory duties is not proper. Abandoning them due to delusion is declared to be in the mode of ignorance (tamas)."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 18.7 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Lord Krishna clarifies that 'Nitya Karma' or obligatory duties—actions that sustain cosmic and personal order—should never be abandoned. True renunciation is not the abandonment of the action itself, but the abandonment of ego and attachment to results. Giving up one's duty because of 'Moha' (delusion or confusion) is a trait of 'Tamo Guna'. Such avoidance leads to the stagnation of the soul rather than spiritual liberation, as these duties are essential for purifying the mind and building discipline.
