Chapter 2, Verse 12

न त्वेवाहं जातु नासं न त्वं नेमे जनाधिपा | न चैव न भविष्याम: सर्वे वयमत: परम् ॥12॥
na tvevāhaṁ jātu nāsaṁ na tvaṁ neme janādhipāḥ | na caiva na bhaviṣyāmaḥ sarve vayam ataḥ param
"But certainly (it is) not (a fact) that I did not exist at any time; nor you, nor these rulers of men. And surely it is not that we all shall cease to exist after this."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 2.12 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

In this pivotal verse, Lord Krishna introduces the fundamental truth of the immortality of the soul (Atman). He dispels Arjuna's grief by explaining that existence is not limited to the current physical manifestation. By using the words 'I', 'you', and 'kings', Krishna affirms that the individual identity of the soul is eternal—it existed before birth and will continue to exist after the death of the physical body. This aligns with the Vedic realization of 'Sanatana' (eternal), suggesting that life is a continuous stream and death is merely a transition of the vehicle, not the passenger.
