Chapter 2, Verse 17

अविनाशि तु तद्विद्धि येन सर्वमिदं ततम् | विनाशमव्ययस्यास्य न कश्चित्कर्तुमर्हति ॥17॥
avināśi tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idaṃ tatam | vināśam avyayasyāsya na kaścit kartum arhati ||
"But know That to be indestructible by which all this is pervaded. None can bring about the destruction of this Immutable."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 2.17 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Lord Krishna explains the nature of the soul (Atman) as the source of consciousness. Just as fragrance pervades a garden or sandalwood cools the whole body from one spot, the soul, situated in the heart, pervades the entire body with consciousness. This soul is 'Avinashi' (indestructible) and 'Avyaya' (immutable/unchanging), distinguishing it from the 'Vinashi' (perishable) material body. No power in the universe—physical, mental, or celestial—can destroy the spiritual spark that sustains life.
