Chapter 2, Verse 33

अथ चेत्त्वमिमं धर्म्यं संग्रामं न करिष्यसि | तत: स्वधर्मं कीर्तिं च हित्वा पापमवाप्स्यसि ॥33॥
atha cet tvam imaṁ dharmyaṁ saṅgrāmaṁ na kariṣhyasi | tataḥ sva-dharmaṁ kīrtiṁ cha hitvā pāpam avāpsyasi ||
"But if you will not perform this righteous battle, then, having abandoned your own duty and fame, you will incur sin."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 2.33 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Lord Krishna emphasizes that inaction in the face of a moral necessity is not 'peace,' but a dereliction of duty (Svadharma). For a warrior or anyone in a position of responsibility, avoiding a righteous struggle out of fear or misplaced compassion leads to the loss of integrity (Kirti) and the accumulation of negative karma (Papam). The Parashara Smriti confirms that a leader's duty is to protect righteousness, even if it requires the difficult use of force.
