Chapter 3, Verse 24

उत्सीदेयुरिमे लोका न कुर्यां कर्म चेदहम् | सङ्करस्य च कर्ता स्यामुपहन्यामिमा: प्रजा: ॥24॥
utsīdeyur ime lokā na kuryāṁ karma ced aham | saṅkarasya ca kartā syām upahanyām imāḥ prajāḥ ||
"If I did not perform action, these worlds would be ruined. I would be the cause of social chaos and would be responsible for the destruction of all these beings."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 3.24 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Lord Krishna emphasizes the burden of leadership and the cosmic impact of divine example. As a 'Jagadguru' (World Teacher), His actions serve as the blueprint for human conduct. If He were to abandon His prescribed duties, the social and moral fabric (Dharma) would unravel, leading to 'Varna-sankara'—a state of confusion where individuals abandon their natural responsibilities. For Arjun, a warrior-prince, renouncing the battle would not just be a personal choice but a catalyst for societal collapse, as others would mimic his escapism, leading to the victory of unrighteousness.
