Detailed Meaning
Lord Krishna defines the hierarchy of human existence to provide a roadmap for self-mastery. The physical body is the most external. Superior to it are the senses (indriyas). Higher than the senses is the mind (manas), which processes sensory data. Superior to the mind is the intellect (buddhi), the faculty of discrimination and decision-making. Finally, the highest is the 'Sah' or the Atman (Soul), the silent witness. By identifying with the highest (the Soul), one can govern the lower faculties and overcome the impulses of lust and desire mentioned in the preceding verses.
