Chapter 8, Verse 12

सर्वद्वाराणि संयम्य मनो हृदि निनिरुध्य च | मूर्ध्न्याधायात्मन: प्राणमास्थितो योगधारणाम् ॥12॥
sarva-dvārāṇi sanyamya mano hṛdi nirudhya cha | mūrdhnyādhāyātmanaḥ prāṇam āsthito yoga-dhāraṇām
"Restraining all the gateways of the body, confining the mind within the heart, and drawing the life-breath into the head, one should remain established in the practice of yoga."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 8.12 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

This verse outlines the technical process of 'Pratyahara' (withdrawal of senses) and 'Dharana' (concentration). 'Sarva-dvarani' refers to the nine gates of the body (eyes, ears, etc.) which must be guarded to prevent external distractions. The mind is then anchored in the 'Hridaya' (spiritual heart center), and the 'Prana' (vital energy) is directed upward to the 'Sahasrara' (crown chakra). This internalizes the consciousness, preparing the seeker for the final transition or deep meditative absorption (Yoga-dharanam).
