स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत् | नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो नुनादयन् ॥19॥
sa ghoṣo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ hṛdayāni vyadārayat | nabhaś ca pṛthivīṁ caiva tumulo ’bhyanunādayan
"That tremendous sound pierced the hearts of the sons of Dhritarashtra as it reverberated through the sky and the earth."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 1.19 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Sanjaya describes the psychological impact of the Pandavas' conch shells. The 'shattering of hearts' signifies that the Kauravas, despite their numerical superiority, were internally weakened by a guilty conscience (Adharma). In contrast, the Pandavas remained unfazed by the Kauravas' earlier sounds because they were anchored in Dharma and the presence of Krishna. The sound vibrating through 'heaven and earth' symbolizes the universal support for the righteous cause.
