Chapter 9, Verse 4

मया ततमिदं सर्वं जगदव्यक्तमूर्तिना | मत्स्थानि सर्वभूतानि न चाहं तेष्ववस्थित: ॥4॥
mayā tatam idaṃ sarvaṃ jagad avyakta-mūrtinā | mat-sthāni sarva-bhūtāni na cāhaṃ teṣv avasthitaḥ ||
"This whole world is pervaded by Me in My unmanifest form. All beings exist in Me, but I am not contained in them."
Key Insight:
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us through 9.4 that true peace is found when we align our actions with Dharma.

Detailed Meaning

Lord Krishna explains His relationship with the universe using the concept of 'Aisvarya Yoga' (Divine Mystery). He is the all-pervading substratum of existence, yet He remains transcendent and unattached. While everything rests upon His energy, His essential being is not limited by or dependent upon the finite world. This rejects both simple pantheism (God is only the world) and deism (God is only outside the world), proposing instead that the universe exists within God, but God is vastly more than the universe.
